Meet Ms. Powell

Teaching has been my lifelong dream. Although I faced personal setbacks early on, I reignited that passion later in life and began my journey in education. With a background in mental health, I felt called to support students with exceptional needs and pursued additional training in that field.

Now, with over 10 years of experience as a K–12 Exceptional Children Teacher in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, I’m certified in Orton-Gillingham and the Foundations of Reading, and I’m currently working toward becoming a reading specialist. I believe reading development begins at birth and is essential for lifelong learning. Teaching brings me joy—it's truly what I was born to do.

Meet Ms. McLeod

My passion for education began early—I started as a teacher’s assistant at 14 through the CEDA program in Chicago. I went on to study Speech Pathology and Audiology at Tennessee State University, with a minor in Special Education.

With over 20 years of experience in speech and language support, including time running a home daycare, I later earned a Master’s in Special Education from Grand Canyon University. I’ve worked with students from pre-K to high school, supporting diverse needs, and have also tutored youth and adults both in person and online.

Today, I serve as a General Curriculum Resource Teacher at the middle school level and as an ESL instructor at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte.

Meet Ms. Turner

Originally from Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, I’ve spent nearly 20 years in education, driven by a deep love for helping children learn and grow. After graduating from James Madison University, I began teaching while raising my three children.

My focus is on reading development, and I’m certified in the HELPS program, which builds fluency to strengthen overall reading skills. I currently teach in a high-needs area, where I provide personalized support to help each student become a confident, capable reader.

For me, teaching isn’t just a job—it’s a calling. I’m dedicated to empowering every child to overcome challenges and succeed.
